Audi Q7 is the full size luxury crossover SUV released for the first time in 2005 as Audi’s entry in the SUV field. For a while it was the only SUV offering until Audi released Q5. The new Q3 added yet another SUV model to its lineup.
Luxury and comfort are evident everywhere. Its interior are swank and German attention to detail is evident in deign of every element, SUV has an array of luxury and safety features..It is built with performance in mind. It is as luxurious and safe as any luxury car and yet gives the performance and seating capacity of a SUV. When it is called a luxury SUV the emphasis is on luxury as even its basic model comes with leather upholstery, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control, Audi’s MMI control interface and a power liftgate. If you want more you can buy a higher model which comes with a navigation system, a rearview camera, a surround-sound audio system and xenon headlights. Avaiilable options are air suspension, adaptive cruise control and a panoramic sunroof.
It is a 5-door 7 seater SUV. Layout is longitudinal front engine, quattro permanent four-wheel drive. It is built on the Platform of Volkswagen Group PL71 platform. Available Engines are 4.2L V8 FSI, 3.6L VR6 FSI, 4.2L V8 TDI, 3.0L V6 TDI, 6.0L V12 TDI. Available Transmission are 6-speed automatic and 8-speed start-stop Automatic. Its Wheelbase is 118.2 in (3002 mm), length from 2005-2009 was 200.2 in (5085 mm) but was increased in 2010 to 200.3 in (5,088 mm) while width remains 78.1 in (1984 mm). Height in 2005-09 model was 68.3 in (1735 mm) which was increased in 2010 to 68.4 in (1,737 mm). Its Kerb weight is 4850-5730 lb (2205-2605 kg).
Although it lacks a low-range transfer case, it has quattro permanent four wheel drive system with a central differential lock, and an adjustable-height air suspension which helps in off road situations.
- Q7 offers a feature marketed as AMI, or Audi Music Interface, to allow user manipulation of an iPod or similar MP3-style player, which can play through the main sound system.
- Q7 was the first Audi model to offer Side Assist, a type of blind-spot detection and warning system.

3.0 TDI® ‘clean diesel’ version and you can take advantage of the cleanest diesel technology in the world, which uses a special additive to significantly reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Whichever model you choose, you’ll also benefit from the practical 7-seat interior, which leaves enough room for the whole family.
Efficiency
At Audi, doing less is something we’re trying to do more of. We’re working to use less fuel, release less CO2 and waste less energy. It’s why we’ve incorporated a number of more efficient technologies into the Audi Q7.
Recuperation
When a vehicle brakes, the discs convert the kinetic energy into thermal energy, which is wasted as it cannot be used. With a recuperation system like the one in the Audi Q7, the kinetic energy is converted into useful electrical energy. The way it works is simple. While the car is coasting or braking, the alternator voltage is raised above the level of the basic electrical system, which enables the alternator to generate electrical energy and store it temporarily in the battery. When the vehicle accelerates, this energy is used to relieve the load on the alternator, resulting in a fuel saving of up to 3%.
Aerodynamics
A car’s shape can have a big impact on its efficiency. It’s why we’ve worked to make the Audi Q7 as aerodynamic as possible, including technology such as adaptive air suspension that responds to changes in speed. It means that the Audi Q7 becomes more aerodynamic at high speeds, while still offering good ground clearance in off-road situations.
Automatic Start-Stop function*
In heavy traffic, your car still uses fuel and releases CO2, even when it’s stationary. The automatic Start-Stop function counteracts this problem by switching off the engine when your car comes to a standstill. As soon as you release the brake pedal, the car restarts.

Audi Q7 Engines
The 3.0T Premium and Premium Plus are powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that produces 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0T S line Prestige gets a more powerful version of that engine, producing 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. An alternative choice is the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 found in the Q7 TDI. This “clean diesel” engine produces 225 hp and a robust 406 lb-ft of torque, while returning an excellent 20 mpg combined. All engines are mated to an eight-speed transmission with manual shift control, and all Q7s are equipped with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
In 2007, Q7 came with 3.6-liter V6 (280 hp and 266 lb-ft) or a 4.2-liter V8 (350 hp and 325 lb-ft), both with six-speed automatic transmission. These were replaced with the supercharged V6 after the 2010 model year. The diesel TDI engine was not available until 2009. 2010 and newer models came with an updated and easier to use MMI electronics interface and navigation system.
0-100 KM/h performance for Q7 3.6 VR6 FSI is 8.5s, and for 4.2 V8 FSI is 7.4S.
Petrol
TFSI® direct-injection technology is a unique Audi innovation that includes supercharging, which combines FSI® technology with forced induction – giving cars an extra injection of power and torque. It also delivers enhanced fuel efficiency as precisely the right amount of fuel and air are injected into the combustion chambers, enabling the engine to ‘breathe’ more easily. It results in reduced heat loss and increased output, with around a 15% reduction in fuel consumption and significantly lower exhaust emissions.
Diesel
We introduced TDI® to the roads in 1989, marking a departure from the noisy, fuel-thirsty diesel engines of the past. And since then, we’ve continuously refined it, recently developing common-rail technology. Under this system, a series of piezo injectors use electrical charge to precisely control the amount of fuel injected into the engine. As well as reducing noise, this allows combustion to happen at a lower temperature, with less oxygen, which lowers emissions.
Transmission
Its optional adjustable air suspension helps it navigate bumps and ruts with panache, and Audi’s all-wheel-drive system keeps the wheels firmly glued to the road.
8-speed tiptronic
The Audi Q7 comes with a brand new gearbox – an advanced 8-speed tiptronic transmission system which reduces both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It converts high-torque engine power into sporty performance and operating convenience, with crisp, fast gear changes and an optimised gear-shift strategy. More spontaneous gear changes are a particular benefit, especially when downshifting. Both in the ‘D’ (Drive) and ‘S’ (Sport) programme, the advanced electronics used in tiptronic respond efficiently to every driver input.
quattro®
It’s the technology that’s given us the edge on the rally circuit ever since it was first introduced over 30 years ago, bringing victory for the Audi quattro® on its very first outing. It’s called quattro® permanent all-wheel-drive. In this system, four permanently driven wheels deliver better acceleration, road-holding and safety, while asymmetric-dynamic torque distribution intelligently controls the flow of power to the front and rear axles.
It means that the Audi Q7 can ‘read’ the road, sensing changes in the surface beneath the wheels and adjusting their grip accordingly. So when conditions get a little more demanding – in particular, when you go off-road – quattro® adapts, putting all the force of the Audi Q7’s engine precisely where it’s needed to handle the change in terrain.
Facelift (2009-)
The vehicle was unveiled in 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Exterior changes include new front and rear lights which better incorporate LED lighting with optional LED turn signals and daytime running lights, new wheel designs, chrome accents, four new paint colors, and updated body styling in the front and rear.
A redesigned interior includes a new instrument cluster, new leather seating, ambient door lighting, new interior color choices, new trim, and the third generation MMI control system.
Q7 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro (2009-)
It is a version of 3.0 TDI with selective catalytic reduction. CO2 emission was reduced to 234 g/km with Euro 6 certification, but the vehicle is 50 kg (110 lb) heavier. It’s been reported that at 72.5MPH the Audi Q7 TDI will get 29+ miles per gallon (diesel).
2011 Facelift model
A brand new facelift and LED headlights with a 8 speed start stop, CO2 reduced to 195 g/km and a wraparound tailgate. Also full paint finishes and metallic colours available and 21 inch alloys in titanium effect and 37 miles to the gallon.
